What’s contained in your kit
Depending on which kit you purchased, you will have received two or three different versions of the exact same document. For example, for most of our contract templates, we provide (1) a Microsoft Word version of the template that is completely editable; (2) an identical Microsoft Word version, this one with completion tips contained in comment boxes; and (3) an Adobe PDF version of the same contract with fillable blanks.
You may also have in your kit (again, depending on your purchase) Legal Dash’s Guide to Contracts (feel free to use this to guide any edits you make to the template), a credit card authorization form, Adobe Photoshop files, and other bonuses.
Opening and extracting the ZIP File
Depending on the number of documents in your kit, you may receive the documents via a ZIP file. A ZIP file is a compressed folder containing a file or multiple files. Once you download the ZIP file, you can extract all the files contained within the folder. A link to download the ZIP file is contained in an email sent to the address registered to your Etsy account (or the address you used to check out as a guest).
You can also access the link by going to the “Purchases and Reviews” page in your Etsy account. Find the order, and click the “Download Files” button on the right side of the page, then scroll down and click the “Download” button towards the bottom of the page. You will see a .zip folder appear. To extract the templates from the ZIP file, simply double click the ZIP file and copy and paste the files contained in the ZIP file to another folder in your system.
How to edit your template
The Microsoft Word versions of your template are completely editable, meaning you can change any part of the form, add a logo, adjust the formatting, insert pictures, change the font, and so on. If you don’t have access to Microsoft Word, you can use Google Docs as a free alternative. Simply edit the form as you would any other Word document. Feel free to download and edit the form as many times as you like. If you’re editing the version with the instruction comments included, be sure to delete all the comments before finalizing the contract for signature.
If your purchase comes with a PDF version, that version of the form is fillable, rather than completely editable. In other words, you can add text to the blank spaces but, unless you have specialized software, you can’t edit or remove the existing text. Simply scroll through the documents and insert your desired text in each of the blank spaces.
